Housing Navigator
Job Description
Since 1990 Triangle Community Center has been Fairfield County's leading provider of LGBTQ+ programming and services to nurture growth and connection within the community. Our mission is to empower and advocate for LGBTQ+ people in Connecticut through programming focused on health, community, and learning.
Our mental health and case management services reach over 450 individuals annually and continues to increase. We hold one of the largest Pride celebrations in CT in addition to robust programming with over 2,500 visits annually.
The Housing Navigator will provide support to young adults (ages 18-24) during the time of crisis, help them navigate the homeless response system, and assist them with the return to stable housing in the community. This position emphasizes continuous engagement of individuals and/or families in creative problem solving and light-touch case management to develop an individualized housing plan to overcome barriers and connect them with housing resources as appropriate to end their homelessness.
This full-time position will work in collaboration with and report directly to the Case Management Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Receive referrals from 211 and walk-ins to Triangle Community Center, and assess for eligibility for housing services through the Coordinated Access Network (CAN).
- Complete CAN assessments to identify housing barriers and begin housing navigation.
- Help clients explore their natural supports and strengths to identify safe solutions to their housing crisis without entering into the shelter system.
- Provide ongoing case management services to unhoused and at-risk clients and the LGBTQ community, connecting them with resources at Triangle Community Center and within the larger network of community-based organizations.
- Work with unsheltered clients who cannot obtain traditional housing to access emergency shelter, transitional housing, Rapid Re-Housing, and permanent supportive housing programs when appropriate and available.
- Help households obtain and collect all personal identification and documentation, income verification, homelessness verification, and disability verification (when applicable) and upload them into the CT Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
- Maintain organized files, HIPAA compliance, and adhere to timely data entry into HMIS, SmartSheet, and/or other data systems.
- Conduct extensive outreach to engage the community and build relationships with organizations.
- Work collaboratively with the Fairfield County CAN staff to ensure speedy service delivery.
- Participate in training related to best practices and Coordinated Access Network system improvement, including but not limited to diversion, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, HMIS, domestic violence.
- Travel throughout Fairfield County on a regular basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 2-4 years experience in case management, psychology, substance abuse counseling, peer support, healthcare, housing, advocacy, community outreach, crisis response, human services, or social work - in the form of academic, professional, and/or lived experience.
- Deep understanding of the social, psychological, and environmental factors influencing homelessness including unemployment, substance use, mental health, immigration status, gender identity, institutional racism, and housing costs in Connecticut.
- Project a professional demeanor and exercise mature judgment.
- Experience utilizing self care and boundary setting as a necessity to effective work.
- Competency in LGBTQ+ identities and issues unique to the community.
- Strong critical thinking skills and a solutions-oriented approach to new problems.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, especially telephone communication.
- Ability to self-organize to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Aptitude for applications, paperwork, and documentation.
- Ability to learn new software quickly and effectively.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable insured transportation and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check (to be performed prior to start date).
Highly Preferred:
- Bilingual - Spanish and English
- Personal experience as a current or former client of social services or human services organizations, especially with lived experience as formerly unhoused or unstably housed in Connecticut.
- Experience working with the LGBTQ+ community; specifically youth and communities of color.
- Knowledge of CT’s Coordinated Access Network, HMIS system, and various state and federal housing programs.
- Extensive knowledge of community-based organizations, social services, and low-income resources within Fairfield county.
- BSW, MSW (or desire to obtain) preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
- Budgeted salary range $40,000 - $45,000 annually. Position open until filled.

Development Manager

The Development Manager will lead efforts for the creation and implementation of strategic plans to raise significant funds for TCC from major gifts, corporate sponsorships, special campaigns, events, grants, as well as from individual donors, and other sources. Duties include overseeing and managing fundraising efforts, building strong and successful relationships with donors and volunteers, and collaborating with staff to effectively execute fundraising events.
This full-time position will work in collaboration with and report directly to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Events
- Develop and oversee annual fundraising programs, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants (new and existing), major events and special campaigns
- Develop and execute an annual fundraising strategy
- Prepare high quality grant proposals
- Collaborate with staff on the management and planning of fundraising events
- Identify, screen, and negotiate with outside vendors for fundraising events
- Develop and manage budgets for major fundraising events while identifying opportunities to reduce expenses and maximize revenue
- Working with the Community Engagement Manager, direct strategic communications and marketing efforts to increase TCC’s fundraising and development opportunities
- Develop print marketing collateral related to fundraising in collaboration with our Community Engagement Manager
Donor Relations
- Identify prospective individual and corporate donors and develop strategies to cultivate those relationships to generate significant revenue throughout the year
- Maintain ongoing communications with private and corporate donors
- Research donor relation programs at local, state, and federal levels including relationships to find new grant opportunities
- Serve as a visible spokesperson and advocate for TCC’s mission and programs in funding communities and public forums
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on major gifts and high-dollar corporate sponsorships
- Work with the Executive Director and Board President to hold quarterly receptions with the Board and donors
Reporting
- Report monthly/quarterly on metrics goals for Board review including campaign results
- Maintain proficiency in managing and using TCC’s member/donor database and ensure its accuracy including contributions from multiple sources and platforms
- Ensure payments made from sponsors related to our major events and campaigns (Pride in the Park, Visionary Gala)
- Ensure timely and accurate report deliveries to funders, bookkeeper, fiduciary partners, and acknowledgements to donors
Supervision
- Supervise and lead the development team comprised of a Community Engagement Manager and contract grant writer
- Working with the Community Engagement Manager, increase, develop and coordinate a network of professional volunteers willing to provide volunteer services to TCC’s goals
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and commitment to the LGBTQ+ community
- Must be a team player who is committed to TCC’s mission and our clients
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- 5+ years of fundraising experience in a non-profit including measurable results including high-dollar fundraising
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Supervisory experience required
- Effective communications, including superb written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Must be an ethical person who abides by and models best practices in HR and finance along with industry standards for non-profit programs, services, and management
- Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; exceptional time management
- Self-starter, exceptional organizational skills, detailed-oriented, energetic, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Successful history of funding from Sponsorships, Events, Major Gifts, and Grants
- Familiarity with various fundraising/donor tracking software. Raiser’s Edge NXT experience a plus
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish a plus
Compensation and Benefits:
- Budgeted salary range $70,000 - $80,000 annually. Position open until filled.
